I'm a rising senior in college. My recruiter told me that I can only apply for 1 designator if I want to apply with BDCP, but I can apply for 3 if I were to apply to the regular OCS board. I'm interested in the CW designator, and if I were to apply without BDCP, I'd put down CW, IP, and MCWO in that order. Which option is less competitive to be accepted as?

Studying for a BA in Computer Science, GPA is 3.2, OAR 54 if that helps.

Your best bet would be to check out the various IWC forums and see how applicants stack, particularly those who have gotten selected. That will help give you a prediction on where you'll stack.

I was able to find out where I stand for the regular board by looking at the past board threads, but I can't find much about who or what stats got selected for BDCP. Do you have any information about that?

You can apply for multiple boards. If you really are interested or in need of BDCP money, apply for BDCP. If you don't get selected, then apply again to the next board cycle.

BDCP is still a fairly new program, even newer for the IWC options. It's going to be difficult to really try to map what competitive stats are.

Makes sense, but I'm still at a crossroads. Based on my stats, which do you think would be a better option for me to apply for?

I appreciate you helping out by the way

Which do YOU actually want to do? Which job sounds cooler? Again, if you don't get selected the first time up, put in another application for the next board. I don't even think it's all that difficult anymore since there are years-long gaps between boards like there were 10 or 15 years ago. Remember, this is YOUR career, not ours.

I think I'll apply for CW-BDCP. You have a point - I can apply later for the regular board but can't do BDCP later after I graduate. Thanks for your help!

I would much rather apply for a job I would enjoy instead of trying to get in.

With that said, you really don’t have a good stack in terms of the GPA (3.2) and OAR score and applying for some of the most competitive OCS programs there. If you’re a non select, I would consider checking out other OCS programs where you are a better fit (SWO, Aviation, etc.), either go to grad school and apply for IWC with that, or enlist in one of the IWC jobs and try again for officer down the road.

This will probably come off as useless old guy advice, but I wish I had known about BDCP when I was applying, the previous time BDCP existed. I know several guys who retired at 18 years of commissioned service due to the program. Not to mention the money during college. I'm not sure if the re-incarnated BDCP is the same, but if it is, I don't know why you wouldn't throw your name in the hat?

He mentioned that he can only apply for one BDCP option. Perhaps he just wants to cast the net and try for multiple, hence OCS.
