Bdcp Question

I have been PROREC and am currently waiting to hear about a final select. Anyways, I have some questions for anyone that has already been accepted into the BDCP program.

1. I am currently drawing MGIB because I did 5 years in the Marine Corps. Does anyone know if I will be able to continue drawing MGIB if I get accepted into the BDCP? If I can't draw MGIB, do they let you use Tuition Assitance as if you were active duty?

2. Are we actually considered active duty Navy and get all the benefits (Base pay, housing allowance, bas, health insurance, leave days)?

3. Do I start out as a E-3 even though I got out of the Marine Corps as an E-5? If I start as an E-3, do I get E-3 pay over 5 years?

4. Do we get the BAH rate at where we currently reside, where your recruiting station is, or where your home of record is?

5. Does my wife get all the same benefits as she got when I was still in the Marine Corps or am I the only to receive any benefits?

6. Lastly, does the time I'm on the BDCP program count toward retirement time?

I know these questions aren't important as far as getting accepted, but I was just curious. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Well, I can't answer some of your questions because I don't have any experience with prior service, but...

2. Yes, you are considered active duty navy, so you accumulate time in service and get all your allowances (BAH, BAS, leave, etc.)

4. I believe you get BAH depending on where you actually reside, but I could be wrong. In my case my home of record and where I reside are the same so I can't tell.

5. I *believe* that your spouse gets the same benefits because you are active duty Navy. It would be just as if you enlisted in the Navy (actually, with BDCP you *do* enlist and then are discharged from enlisted status and commissioned upon graduation of OCS).

6. Yes, BDCP time counts towards time in service, so it does count towards retirement.

Sorry about your other questions, but I don't want to just guess and give you bad info. Let me know if you have any other questions. Congrats on the Pro-rec, that's the hard part!

For BDCP you are on active duty and will get paid all allowances, BAH will be based on your current address. You will get paid as an E-3 over 5 and will still receive the MGIB.

Clarification...

You wil revert back to your previous rank. Cool thing also, if you are in the IRR, that time counts towards your time in service, because technically you are still under contract.

Your BAH is paid for where you are attending university. I lived in a different housing district than my university... about +300/month to me....
