BDCP vs. ROTC

Hi I'm new to the site although I've been looking into the BDCP program for a few months now. I'm a freshman Nursing major at Old Dominion University and I'm currently doing Army ROTC (Im in no way contracted). I was looking to do Navy ROTC but I procrastinated with my scholarship application and it never got done...

Anyways I had a few general questions that I need answered.

1) Can I get into the BDCP program eventhough my school has an NROTC unit? I want to be a naval officer and have the Navy pay for my schooling yet I want no affiliation with ROTC at all. I'm only doing Army ROTC for the PT training heh...

2) I'm taking 14 credits this semester and 16 next semester although I plan to take a few courses over the summer session. I think I read somewhere on here that the board selection committees are in September. Will I be able to turn in an application even if I'm in the process of completing the programs required 30 semester hours ?

3) And If selected for the program does your pay stop when your not in school (ie. summer) or do you get payed year round?

thanks and sorry If these question have been asked before. I tried looking...

Yes you can do BDCP in a school without NROTC, I think that is one of the reasons they have the program. To allow highly qualified candidates to become Naval Officers at schools that do not have NROTC.

The boards meet every through the entire year. If you are accepted you are on active duty and they pay you throughout the entire year.

I recommend you get in touch with an officer recruiter. He/she will be able to answer all of your questions and get you started on your application. For BDCP you can get picked up either one or two years into a four year degree, depending on which degree you're seeking.

I'm going to try to refraise one of the questions for my sake. For a non-tech major, can you apply BEFORE you have the required number of hours? (So as to not recieve pay untill reaching the mandated number of hours but still be on contract).
thanks

Doubt it... those pre-req hours are required for a reason. They want to see how well you can handle college before they give you money... There are lots of 4.0 high school students who suck at College.
