BDCP, what are we anyway?

So at school when i tell people that im in the BDCP program they often ask me if i am a midshipmen or a cadet. i dont think either of these apply as i neither go to the academy and nor am apart of nrotc. this begs the question: just what exactly are we? BDCP pay puts me at e-3 active duty, but as far as i can tell the only title we have is wannbe. do bdcpers have an official title?

I'd call you an Officer Candidate... seeing as how OCS/ROTC/USNA mids fall into that category, and you will soon be an OCS mid. That or a Midshipman Candidate (what NAPSters are called)

I believe that the official rate is actually OCSN... Officer Candidate Seaman.

Combating TIP training AGAIN?!
So would that make my title OCPO1 or Officer Candidate Petty Officer First Class?

In which case you would be an OC1 or OC2; there is no "PO" unless you are not referring to someone by their rate. MM1==Machinist's Mate 1st class, not MMPO1.

Is it safe to use Officer Candidate if you are pro-rec (non-prior)waiting final select? It sounds better than telling people "im applying".

Officer Candidates are pretty nasty things, but you gotta raise your hand to swear in to actually be a member of the military before you're an officer candidate.

And if you really wanna get into it you're gonna be a nasty poopie before you can even call yourself an officer candidate anyway.

I think I like Navy Officer Candidate Candidate, NOCC.

It doesn't really matter, just curious.
