Ok so I am asking the advice of this forum (again).

I just found out that I have 2 classes left (minor got dropped last minute due to insufficient class offerings in the fall). My command has asked that I take them over summer and head off to OCS in Sept/Oct. At present the plan is to finish in the fall and leave in January. It is somewhat up to my discretion but there are some technicalities with the school that I won't bother wasting your time on.

If it was completely up to you, would you go, or would you stay? I am leaning towards going. College has been an absolute blast, but it would be nice to get on with my career. As always, the .02 cents offered from everyone would be appreciated.

If you're going to go to OCS in RI and have the choice between Sep/Oct or Jan, I would take the Sep/Oct class.

Well, your retirement clock is already ticking... No need to rush! I based my decision to graduate ahead of schedule on my friends' graduation. All of them had jobs and were graduating early.... Life in the area would've been a bit bland if it weren't for them... So I decided to get one with the career and graduate ahead of schedule.

If you ask me: If you think you would gain a lot of enjoyment and good times by taking another semester in college, don't hesitate to do so. BDCP college life is great.

If you feel your are in a rut, and everyone is graduating/graduated, etc; bail and start your career. Either way you win!

Pros to graduating in Fall:
You have an extra coupla months to get in shape, memorize stuff, and possibly take an NROTC class
The classes will be less rushed in the fall, leaving more time to study and hang with friends you won't be seeing much of after graduation
Cons:
Weather is nicer in Sept/Oct/Nov than Jan/Feb/Mar
Longer wait to really start your career (can be frustrating)
May have to pay extra tuition since you are required to take 12 credits in fall

I made the decision Jr year (before I was on a Degree Completion Program) to take it slow and it was the best thing for me. I got to make some great memories and the NROTC unit at my college worked with me and so I could take a class on warfare as an elective. The biggest downside was I had to pay somewhere around $900 for the extra elective credits. In the end, do whatever is best for you, like Godspeed said, it's a win-win

Personally I would go to summer school, graduate early and head to Sep/Oct OCS. Why? I was sick of college classes and sitting around thinking about what I was going to do. I'd rather make the date come sooner and get there. It's what I signed up for.

I know a guy that was able to stretch out his graduation one semester longer (BDCP SNA). He had one or two classes and worked the rest of the time and kept reminding me of the days and hours till he left. He regretted having to sit around longer. Trust me, your last semester would be torture.

All depends on your definition of torture my friend. Weigh your options carefully.... :icon_smil

Godspeed you make a good point, but for some us still in school the options are:

School is better than OCS, but I can't wait to drop the title of "Professional Skyhawk driver" and make my money in something that the Navy owns.

Dude, enjoy as much time in school as you can. You're getting paid to do nothing, you have tons of disposable income to go do fun shit. If you're having fun in college, no need to rush to get out into the real world. You're building time towards retirement doing absolutely nothing. Unless you're absolutely sick of school, all of your friends are gone, and you want to get the hell out, I would recommend sticking around for another semester. That way you can have all of your summer to go traveling and be a bum.
