Although there was a topic which addressed what generally happens to newly comissioned ensigns after OCS while they wait for API to start, I have a more specific question. Assuming the wait time before API is significant, I know people generally get assigned to 'stash jobs'. My question is, does anyone know if you get a choice of where to go for this stash job? Could I speficially request a duty station or navy base and get a temporary job (even if it is just recruiting) there if I don't want to go back home? Anyone have any experience with this?

Stash jobs aren't at different Navy bases throughout the country. And right now they aren't allowing aviators to do OHARP. You stay here in Pensacola and will probably work in building 633. You can go and request a job, but that doesn't mean you're going to get it.

If you want to get TADed from A-pool, your best bet would be to have a squadron/other unit already willing to take you. That way, all they have to do is cut you orders. As for the likelihood of getting Flight Managment to let you go, I can't speak to that. But yeah, your basic A-pool stash job is on-board NAS P-cola. Of course there is that coveted spot with the Blues, but don't count on getting it.

They will try to get you to voulenteer for a stash job... you know, so you will get one that you like.... HAHAHAHA lay low man, do not get into trouble and voulenteer for 1 day commitments, like letting NOMI do an experiement on you (that is what did anyway). I went 2 mos, being threatened all 2 mos with a stash job, never got one, and neither did most of my buds.... NAVY... Never Again Voulenteer Yourself.

the beach is a much better stash job than working
