Hey folks,

Prior service Air Force troop here seeking some advice. I recently had a change of heart when i went to San Diego. Right now, I'm on track with ROTC competing for a UPT slot. But i don't know anymore. AF pilots have less freedom than Navy pilots do from what i hear. I plan on ditching the AF brotherhood to join the real BLUES.

A few questions,

Which has a better chance of guaranteeing me a slot? NROTC or OCS?

Is it true that you can get a guaranteed slot before your ship out to OCS?

I currently have a minor instability shoulder problem (Subluxation) Which causes the shoulder to slip out of place slightly while doing a certain action such as freestyle swimming. I was planning on keeping it on the hush but i figured i would get surgery and just throw my cards on the table and see what happens.

BTW this forum rocks. See ya baseops!

Thanks for your time gents.

Easy. Guaranteed? OCS.

To be accepted to OCS, you MUST go in with a designator. So if you apply for pilot, you ONLY get accepted for pilot. If you put down 3 choices, you can get accepted for those 3, but MUST select one of the choices you were selected for. In other words, you GO TO OCS with a job. ROTC has no guarantees.

If you want a guarantee, look into OCS and BDCP. READ around this site and ask a SPECIFIC question. General question threads will be closed because they've all been answered before.

EDIT: DON'T lie about medical or drug history. Many common medical problems (broken bones, joint issues etc) and weed can be waivered (especially if they are in the not so recent past. Lying will result in possible UCMJ charges. Not worth it.

Hey OttoWrote8,

Thanks for the prompt response and for not blasting me for *NOT* searching. The baseops forum disabled my account for that. I guess thats part of their continuity!

My original plan was not to get surgery and somehow get through OCS and navy flight school which i pretty much deemed impossible with all that swimming. Im just kind of anxious about getting medically disqual since it seems like they want SPARTAN like pilots =D

And yes, nobody wants to go to Military Prison..yikes!

HH-60h,

I will be a sophomore after summer school, turning 23 in october with almost 5 years active duty under my belt. I’ll be glad to fill it out.
