Body Fat at OCS

Bgoode

Hopeful Supply DCO
Someone was telling me they had a few over weight nukes (24/25% body fat) and upon arrival they were measured. When they discovered the body fat percentage, those guys were rolled into H class for a minimum of 3 weeks and they were going to be tested again to see if they would be able to roll into that incoming class.

Does this sound right?

The more fit and slim you are at OCS, the better. You don't want to stand out for being overweight and you don't want to have to lose a massive amount of weight there. You'll have to get your uniforms taken in or buy new ones. Your fleet uniforms are fitted early in OCS.

yes, it is, I will say if a non Nuke shows up overweight that have told us they will ship them back to the originating NRD at that NRD's expense.

I will say you don't want to be the recruiter that sends an applicant to OCS over BF, CO/XO of NRD has to explain to the commodore what happened, who then explains to CNRC what happened. I had one guy who is overweight but body fat is only 16%, I had him measured by and witnessed by multiple people so there is no view of favoritism.

I'm weighing in on Monday at my NRD. I'm like right at the max weight/body fat (depending on time of day) I could be 22% or 23%, or a pound under or over the limit. This weigh in 27 days out of my report date. Not that I -plan- on failing it, but what would protocol be in your NRD NavyOffRec being that I'm that close?

(And I have been steadily losing weight/body fat, and that trend will continue prior to leaving for OCS, so I know I'll be in standards come report date) With six days, and being on the edge, my anxiety is running high.

you have to be weighed no more than 30 days out and no less than 14, I would measure you now, then a week later, then at 15 days, just to make sure and have documentation showing you made weight and were decreasing.

I did this exact thing for a few of my people and they were fine.

Does anyone know a good online body fat calculator to use? When I google them I've found three that take into account both waste and neck measurements however, the calculated percentage varies slightly between all of them. Long story short, I'm 73 and some change inches tall and the last time I got the rope and choke I was legit at 214. This time around I'm 219 and feel like I'm in better shape. That being said, I think I should be ok; I'm just a little antsy/curious due to my heading back to Newport.

Great! Thanks so much. It's about the same as the other ones I've found but it makes me feel better since it says "Navy" in a few places. Haha... Seriously though, It's a load off my mind. Good old 17%... Glad I don't have to drop to 206 in the next week or so because I'd be crazy mad until I could eat a burger!
