Book Store Study Guides

I have begun to look into preparing for the asbt. I went to the bookstore today and they had three books: barrons, cliffnotes, and the arco book. Before I looked on here and found out how the arco seems to be the best book, I immediately eliminated it when I was at the bookstore. However, I have also read that barrons and especially cliffnotes are not good either.

I guess my main question is what books are best for preparation. I am willing to purchase the books online if it is only available online. I have also seen that many people do read aviation guides.

I know that I can take the practice tests found on this website but I would want something that actually goes through the reasoning behind each answer.

Thanks!

Barron's is fine. I used it and yes there are some mistakes (Primarily in the math) for the answers but other than that its fine. Math isn't a problem for me, so I was able to spot the mistakes pretty much every time. However, if math is a weak point, I'd still get the book but maybe avoid the math section, but its up to you. Honestly, I still say get the book and use the math section and anything you dont understand or have a question as to why, just google it. I'm a PT math teacher and I tell my students that all the time. If they want a better explanation of how to do certain things, there are 1000's of websites out there that can help and explain it better too. Overall Barron's gave me everything else i needed to prepare and I was fine.

Arco would be my second choice. I didn't use it, but heard its good too.

I would avoid Cliffnotes at all costs. Seriously.

Search the threads on this site as well. Many of us have posted ASTB materials that we used that you can click or download. There's an entire thread devoted to the ASTB. "1001 Questions about the ASTB". Check that out and Good Luck.
