Does anyone know how full the BOQs at Pcola and Whiting are? I'll be checking in next Wednesday or Thursday and I'd like to get an idea of what to expect.

I called down there the other week. They said they are sending SNAs to the BEQ at Corry Station.

It figures. You sure they said BEQ and not BOQ? And how far is Corry Station? I went ahead and drew DLA so I'd have cash to find a place in case there was no room at the BOQ, I guess I may go ahead and use it.

Yep, they said BEQ- It didn't sound like there was anymore rooom at NAS Pensacola. The lady said that Corry station is only about a mile or so away from NAS. They said pilots would be getting a single room with typical Q furnishings...(desk, tv, bed etc). They also said they aren't taking reservations for incoming people, but they made it sound like they were going to have room so you might be in luck. Apartment hunting is a Biatch right now though, so the Q may be your best bet in the short term.

Last I heard, there was still some room up at the Q at Whiting. If you're going to Whiting for Primary, it means a long commute (1-1.5 hrs depending on traffic) for a few weeks. If you're headed to Corpus or Vance, or if you're an NFO and staying at Pensacola, don't bother - it wouldn't be worth it.

The drive from Corry to NAS would be 10 minutes or less.

Instead of posting here, try calling them. There's nothing quite like first hand information if you can get it. In any case, API isn't that long, though you may have to wait the next 5 years before starting.

Bachelor housing considers itself full at 80%, so if you call them at that point, they will tell you that they are full. I figure if I post the question, then I can hear from someone there something like "there's a few empty rooms around me" or "my class just graduated and there should be 20 rooms available next week". Plus, I figure it's a good way to initiate a little conversation as well.

Things keep getting better and better. Now Corry Station says they don't give rooms to geo bachelors, I have to go to Whiting Field. I called Whiting Field and they said they have no geo bach rooms, and when they do, it's 3 people to a room with a shared bathroom down the hall.

Go and talk to the Pcola BOQ front desk once you get there, you'll likely get a different story. Bottom line is, you'll be able to live somewhere. And you'll likely be in A pool for months, and you won't want to live in the Q that long if you can avoid it.

Well, I'm with the 04 group so we should all class up by May, so I really only need a place for 6 months for API. I talked to a guy at PSD who confirmed that I will get per diem during API if there's no room at the BOQ, so I feel better. My deal was that someone said that they figured out a way to screw us out of per diem, and if that were the case, I couldn't afford to pay rent out in town, but since talking to that guy at psd, I'm cool. The wife is now expressing an interest in coming to Whiting while I go to Primary, so I shouldn't have to worry about a place during Primary either.

Yeah, don't count on the per diem. I was told I'd get it too, but when I checked into Corpus the PSD guy here said they don't do that anymore. You have to fight for that from what I know. If you live off base you get BAH, but I really wouldn't count on getting per diem.

The thing is that per diem is only for tdy less than 140 days. Even though we all know that API will take longer than 140 days, my orders state that it's only 139. But once I get to Primary, I'll no longer be eligible for per diem, which is also why you can't get it in Corpus. I can't get bah because I'll be geo bach and I already collect bah. I guess if you're a geo bach at a PDS and there's no govt quarters, you just have to pay out of pocket which would really suck.
