Bring final transcripts to OCS!?!

Hey guys, I have a question about the requirment that OCS has on bringing your final transcripts showing your degree earned with you when you report to Pensacola. The thing is that I just found out that my university has a policy whereby they don't even post degrees until 4-6 weeks after graduation. So I graduate on May 21, my OCS class date is June 10, so obviously I'm not going to be able to have the final transcripts in time. I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I know from reading forums that it's fairly common to go to OCS a couple weeks or even days following graduation. Will they even issue me orders to my OCS class without my final transcripts? I was wondering if I could just have my registrar sign a letter saying I've met all the degree requirements and graduated, and that a copy of my transcript will be mailed to them when it becomes available. Is there anyone that's had a similar experience and could you let me know what course of action to take?

Best bet is to talk to your recruiter. They'llhave the best and most up to date info on what you need to do as far as your transcripts go.

Good luck at OCS.

Thanks bubba, yeah I emailed my recruiter yesterday, unfortunately he's out of the office until the 15th, so I was just hoping that I could get some suggestions here in the meantime.

Given that your school doesn't release transcripts until after you get to OCS, your best bet is probably to get the letter. As long as it states that you've completed the degree requirements and that the official ones are on the way, you should be fine.

Yeah I agree with ya bubba, I'll be able to bring my final transcript with me to OCS with all my grades and courses on it, it's just that it won't note my degree because that takes a little longer for the college to process than the final grades. So I figure if I have my transcript and a letter stating that I've earned my degree, and that a transcript with my degree noted on it will be arriving in a few weeks, I don't see how they can put up too big of a fuss over it. Seems like they're willing to work with most people I've seen.

Just to chime in. I remember seeing the transcript on the list of "sh!t to bring." I brought mine...and never took it out of the envelope. Besides...verifying that you actually graduated from college at OCS is a little late, isn't it?

Yeah I agree with you guys...so last thursday my recruiter told me that my class date was JUNE 10 and I went down to my NRD to take my oath and sign on the line, but I haven't actually recieved any orders yet? While I was down there he had mentioned sending him my final transcripts...So do they need my final transcript before they even issue me my orders to OCS???

This can not be an original problem. I'm sure 100s of kids encounter this issue every year and I suspect that Navy has a reasonable way to deal with it. Bottom line - communicate your situation to the appropriate people and everything will be cool. You guys made it, congratulations, now don't sweat the minutiae.

Thanks a lot Brett for your insights...I guess I'm making this a bigger deal than it actually is. I'll just wait for the LT to get back from his vacation to see what what the standard procedure for this is, I'm sure it's a pretty common thing like you said. Guess I shouldn't sweat the small stuff and appreciate the fact that I'm final select and headed to OCS. Thanks again.

Never underestimate the Navy's ability to make a fuss over the smallest of details. Though I agree for this particular situation, I doubt it will be a major issue.

Well I have some good news, I went into my college's registrar's office today and talked with the Graduation Evaluator (she's the one responsible for awarding degrees) and she said that she'd be more than happy to award my degree by May 30th! So problem solved, I'll be able to show up with a final transcript with my degree noted on it! :D
