Hello,
I am a 1/C MIDN set to commission in May. I’ve been service assigned 1390 and I couldn’t be more stoked about it.
A week ago, a fractured my collarbone. It seems to be a clean break, and by the opinions of professionals I won’t need any surgery and it should heal within a month or two.
The aviation liaison at my unit has been checking with NAMI and I’m told that I MUST go see a military doc, and that once I do, a 90 day clock starts ticking. Apparently I will not be cleared until those 90 days have passed AND I have been deemed fully healed with no restriction of movement. So if I’m all healed up and good to go in 6 weeks, it won’t matter because I have to wait 90 days regardless?
I’m now 89 days from commissioning. One option I was told of involved essentially re-designating me for a “general commission”, with the promise of getting my 1390 back after NAMI clears me. I’m apprehensive about this...sounds like classic Navy sodomy waiting to happen.
My question is this: is there any chance I can commission with my class and keep my 1390 designator? And is this 90 day clock really a thing?
Thanks in advance!
