Brown Water Helo's

With the CNO talking about creating a more "Brown Water" Navy for coastal and riverine options, the newly proposed expeditionary combat battalion, and the War on Terror; when do you think Navy Helo's will start flying combat missions?

I know a few squadrons have been in Kuwait and Southern Iraq. Are any of these crews getting Air Medals?

There's actually a couple of threads on here about this. Here's one: http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13037&highlight=gatordev

As for air medals, well, everyone is getting air medals, it just depends on what kind (strike, the actual "hero" kind, and/or valor).

e.g if the ribbon has a NUMBER in it it's called Strike-Flight. Purely a function of number and types of missions (green ink).

if the ribbon has a STAR on it - well that's the big time. You did something above and beyond in airmanship to warrant it.

It's happening. All over. Augmenting Army MEDEVAC, Convoy escort, maratime/port security, moving people and operators.

No word yet on battle damaged aircraft - but it's a matter of time before AD's amd AM's get to practice their craft for real. Sheet metal repair, etc. All the things they learn in C schol.

So what happens if you've got a gold star, and a numeral six? Does that mean you're hung like a moose? ;)

It means you got both...:)

Probably not too shabby. You flew your ass off in combat operations and pulled off something stupendous. There's probably a DFC on that person's chest as well...

I've been in country for about 11 months. I have seen one Seahawk downtown. I think thye might be doing NSW work. But the Army & Air Force have many of those assets in country also.
As far as the med mission goes. The only area I can see the Navy working is out with the Marines. Each Army division has cahnged and has its own organic Dustoff assets. So the Army Dustoff who are doing work with the Marines will be replaced by Navy 60's. This is what I've been told by our Dust off guys.
I was out west ( Marine sector) yesterday and only saw Army Dustoff.
I have seen some Seahawks flying out of Kuwait. I'm not sure how far north they come.
Chuck you are right about the shops boys gettting to use their craft. Ours have been pretty busy.
