Can submitting a packet to the Air Force interfere with my Navy App?

tptwomey

Pro-rec'd SNA Feb 2, 2012
AW:
I have taken my ASTB and am planning on submitting my Navy packet for the November board. I am going for NSA and NFO. My dad keeps encouraging me to apply for the Air Force as well just to give me more options. Is this looked down upon and/or can it impact my chances for either branch by applying to both at the same time?

Thanks in advance everyone.

I applied to every branch. No negative effects. Worst case everyone says no; best case you have the ability to choose.

Nope, apply at will. No one has to know about any other branches your applying to. You don't have to tell your OR's, but if you feel so inclined they know how competitive things are these days and shouldn't be bothered. As your dad said it's best to keep some options open, especially if you have some level of interest in another branch. Of course if you're just interested in the Navy by all means just apply there, but in today's climate nothing is certain. To put things in perspective, I had my completed app in for the Navy last October and it still wouldn't have been seen until next month (assuming that board is still on).
