Had a quick question. My package is almost ready to go down, just waiting on LOR's. I am applying for MARINE pilot. I innocently asked him about applying for both Pilot and NFO and he said that I can't apply for both. He also said that because I have good vision (20/25) and with the rest of my package in mind, that, if the board picked me for something, they would rather it be Pilot. I just wanted a second opinion on this. My recruier has been excellent and honest with me so far so I would be supprised if he was trying to pull a fast one on me.

I know you can do that with the Navy so I just assumed it was the same for the Marines as well.
Thanks all!!

Peace,

The way it seems to me is the A marine OSO directs you into what he thinks best, and I'm fairly certain you can't apply for both just because my OSO never brought it up and much like you I have a much respect for him and trust him completely. Which District are you in?

No, you don't apply for both, but you can put a second and third choice for your designator on there in case you don't get your first choice (at least for BDCP). Ask your recruiter about that and tell him you want pilot, but you also want back-up choices on there because you want to be selected even if you don't get your first choice (if that's actually the case...I only put pilot because if I didn't get it I wanted to weigh my options, or reapply for the same thing later). Good luck.

Hey JR I get the feeling your a navy guy, To my knowledge which should be accurate there aren't secondary billets on the marine corps application. Navy eg. 1. SNA 2. SWO 3. NFO...but in the Marines they guarantee for a pilot, nfo, law, and possibly arty not sure slot upon selection, or you apply for ground and get your MOS after graduation from TBS

You get the feeling I'm a navy guy? What's feeling is that, exactly? Do you mean you read I'm a navy guy from my profile? Hmmm...

Also, notice I said to ASK HIS RECRUITER about it...because it doesn't hurt to ask and be sure.

well without looking at your profile I figured that out, and its not an insult I have nothing against the Navy, maybe the AF but not the Navy. I started doing the Navy thing and understood the whople application process that why I got that feeling...but now I'm getting a brand new feeling, just kidding...If I could go nukes I would I dig Crimson Tide.

OK, but I would be in the Navy and want to fly even if there was no BDCP. I actually was in the Navy and then switched to BDCP after I personally read about it. I do appreciate your dedication and fanaticism, but Marines aren't the only dedicated and disciplined people on the earth and I've met quite a few that I wouldn't want to serve with...but I also understand they're the exception to the rule.
