Can you do well if you don't study the mechanical portion?

Hello people, My question is that I'm not good in physics, I understand the basic of mechanical advantage. Can I just focus on the math and reading sections. I'm not going for a pilot position.

Any thoughts? And where can one go to learn the basics needed for the mechanical portion of the test?

You may not be good at physics but do you understand it, can you take what you know and use problem solving to narrow the answers down to give you a better shot?

I have had many applicants that were non tech degrees do great on the OAR, they didn't take college physics, generally they had HS chem and physics.

I know a guy who took the ASTB cold and got a 9/9/9. It's possible, but that doesn't make it a good idea.

Time for some "tough love":
The test is not geared to "physicists"...don't sweat it overly, but don't gaff it off either. Prepare for each section as well as you can...take the practice tests, read the questions, try to get better at understanding what you don't know....yadda yadda yadda. No one's going to ask you to split the atom...

Trying to figure out how much and what you can "gaff off" is not a stellar way to make your entry into this world.

Truth be told, from the mishap reports I've read most recently, "The basic laws of physics" seem to be more relevant in the SWO world than anywhere else (F=MA, vectors, the law of gross tonnage....you get the idea).

Some funny stuff there R1 :). Not sure the SWO community would appreciate it, but hey, tough love is "tough love."
