My family and I will be in Newport for a couple of days next week. Anybody have any advice for anything we shouldn't miss, or any great restaurants we have to get to?

Much appreciated.

I usually try to hit the Red Parrot. Other than that, just take a walk around the waterfront and see what looks good.

Restaurants: Brick House, Mudville grill, The Japanese Steak/Sushi House across the street from Mudville Grille, Red Parrot, Mamma Leones, The Creamery, Newport Brewery.
Activities :West Deck/Rhino Bar (to Party at). You will find plenty of other places to walk into, just take a cab into town. The newport Dinner Train is ok, and take her to the Mansions to look around.

Here is a Newport RI eats thread:

Go over to Jamestown and walk around the waterfront and out to the park there (beavertail?) There's a lighthouse and nice view of Newport and the shore.

We always liked Christie's as a restaurant but I think it's closed now.

ahh yes, I second the creamery. Be prepared if you hit the mansions, some of them can be a huge ripoff.

Second the Black Pearl. It's good - not stellar, but definitely worth going to. The Museum of Yachting (http://www.moy.org/) is kind of neat, too. Take a drive along the water by Fort Adams in bad weather. Newport Brewery is good too, and get an awful awful at the Creamery.

Beat me to it.

Also, Mama Leone's is pretty good.. standard issue Italian, but good. There's also a Greek place just up the hill from the Post Office.

As far as stuff to do, the cliff walk is pretty good as are the mansion tours.

Second Beach and a board, then some beer. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Tommy's Diner for lunch hasn't been mentioned yet. Best Onion Rings in the world. I also concur with Brick House and Mama Leone's

And if you get a chance to rent a sailboat, the bay is fantastic.
