You got to be kidding me? My favorite is their request for extra hand guns and M4's. Almost a 1:1 ratio of guns to personnel. You Zoomies are just something.

You'll get no argument out of me. There are some things that I do support though. We don't have, or won't have enough F-22s when you factor in maintenance cycles (phases, depot, etc.), pilot currencies, deployments, etc.

The whole, "We don't use the F-22 in theater now" argument is flawed. By the same argument, we haven't used a single nuke in over half a century, I don't think we need any of those SSBNs either by that logic. I know, over simplistic, and I should know better being a PME grade, blah, blah, blah...

But the primary purpose of the SSBNs is to deter others from using similar weapons. So it HAS done its job.

By the same logic the F-22's primary purpose is to deter anyone from taking to the skies against our forces....

Are you honestly arguing that an F-22 is a deterrent asset in the same way as an SSBN? Because that would be ridiculous.

Just stating that I don't think an SSBN's primary job is anything but lob nukes at someone. As a result of that primary job it could be a deterrent, but if it couldn't lob those nukes it probably wouldn't deter anyone from much.

Though we're talking varsity versus 2nd or 3rd string; I don't think anyone we've got against in the gulf ever thought they'd win an air war with us. Job done.

The Chinese, NK's and India are looking closely at what we're doing. All NK has to do is overwhelm us in numbers like the old cold war scenarios. There are a lot of unclassified scenarios where they could possibly take us with our current state of arms. Not likely, but probable. Any further discussion is at the planning cell level and TS.

Factor in a possible early retirement of the C-model and you're looking in the whole for fielding a ready team of air superiority players. When our current war effort is penalizing the specialist and the C-model guys are without any gainful employment, I hope we don't do the stupid thing and start laying them off (figuratively) and find we're in another hole (read T-notch, et al.) when the time comes when we need them.

I don't mean to sound pro-Eagle, trust me I've only met two guys out of how many Eagle drivers that I can stomach. But they have their use.

Though the old man did say that we expected to take more losses in GW1... Turned out we we didn't.

Though it is no secret that we are going to run out of Vipers and Eagles before the F-22 and F-35 squadrons are fully operable, especially if we keep running them into the ground.

I don't have any clearances, nor do I wear wings on my chest, and I'm pretty clueless about what the Navy plans to do besides buy (more?) Rhinos before their F-35 squadrons become active, but I do know that one of the big problems the old man faced as the F-16 Fighter Capabilities Manager was the fact that as each ANG unit (he was AGR) crashes or breaks an airplane they don't have another in the chute to give them. BRAC temporarily "relieved" the problem by reducing the amount of squadrons, but that didn't change the fact that we have less. And the AF Brass are so enamored with the gold plated toys they don't want to buy any stainless steel toys to fill the gap.

But this is probably nothing new to anyone here... :)
