Chances after pro-rec'ed

After getting pro-rec'ed what are the chances of getting final selected. Are you assured that you will be final selected or not.

I have heard that once you are pro-rec'ed it is a done deal, but I just can't believe that. Especially if you have to take the Physical Fitness Test (which I can pass, but I probably can't max out, which is kinda of concerning me).

Your chances of getting a final select are 100% after a pro-rec, provided that you pass the MEPS, EPSQ, and PRT (or get waivers approved for anything that comes up that might be disqualifying).

With the PRT, you don't have to hit the maximums for each excercise, just the minimum requirements for an OCS candidate (something like 45 pushups, 50 situps, 12 min. 1.5 mile run). All the final select board will look at is that you've hit those minimums, and you'll be fine for the time being.

Not true.... There are several on this board that didn't receive a final select after pro rec and passed all the above. If things change as far as the navy's numbers, etc between pro rec time and final select, their decision may or may not change. Nothing is for certain until you sign your papers, remember that.

But with that being said, pro rec is a pretty damn good sign your in!

Everything so far has cleared. I turned in EPSQ and went to MEPs, got cleared medically. The PRT is what is concerning me with final select. I know I can meet the min. (probably will get ~10 min. ~60 p/u ~60 s/u).

It just seemed awkward to me that you have to submit a 'package' twice. Going through AFROTC you submitted a whole package and got one answer, one time.

It shouldn't. My performance on my PRT was nothing short of pathetic, but I passed.

okay, clear it up for the ROTC kid, what is 'pro rec' =)

Professionally recommended. Personally, I think it's a step they could do without, but it's them letting you know "Hey we didn't forget about you" and kinda giving you an update on your package.

I don't even remember being Pro-Rec'd

Alright, heres a question from a rotc guy... what exactly is "pro-rec"? whats the difference between that and "final select?" Can one be final select with out being pro-rec'd?

No. Pro-rec means teh community you applied to says you are qualified for the position, and they are willing to give you a billet. If you don't receieve any pro-recs (you can get pro-rec'd for up to 3 different designators on one application) then you are automatically non-selected.

Nothing is ever guaranteed with the pro-rec. Like Godspeed said, it is a great sign for you as it is typically the toughest hurdle to get over. Check out this poll from a while back (you may need to scroll to the top):

hmm that's interesting. On that poll, 3 people weren't final selected because of "Other." I assume that this is the category that Godspeed talked about, as in people who the Navy discovers they don't have enough room for after the fact (or some other similar reason).

My earlier post reflected what my recruiter had told me. He led me to believe that a final select is guaranteed upon successful completion of the findocs, but I guess it isn't hard to believe that people make mistakes where target numbers for certain communities are concerned. Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't seen that other thread before.

Don't worry about the PRT dude, its not that bad. I didn't max out either. the sooner you knock that out, the sooner you will find out about the final select. seems like it takes about one working month from findocs to final select.

Call the Des Moines NOR and they told me my package was just sent to the board, March 17th I think. So now I just wait and see.

Thanks for the help on the PRT questions. I can meet the min. no problem, but going through AFROTC I was always told that regarding the PFT scores you should max them in order to get a pilot slot when the time came. The problem is that it is just something that I can worry about so...

But I am glad I decided to switch from an Air Force oreinted mindset to a Naval one. BDCP seems a lot better than AFROTC. No day long trips to the Det. for Lead Lab and other stuff.
