Checking In - Taxi

I've been waiting around for over a year in BDCP now and OCS is finally around the corner (June 24). I don't want to take my car to OCS and therefore was wondering if we can take a cab into the base to drop us off? Or is OCS checkin close enough to the main gates to be dropped off? I've always had my DoD sticker so never really thought about this.

At what point do people think it would be better to not have a car? Because it needs repeating apparently
TAKE YOUR CAR!!!

If you still don't want to, then yes you can take a cab. I did, however I wished I had driven myself. OCS is not close to the main gates at all, so you will have to be dropped off near or at the OCS quarter deck. Guys that have been there more recently can tell you where that is.

Definately BRING YOUR CAR!!! You may not want to make the drive, but you will regret not having a vehicle.... I do. If you insist on not bringing it, a cab can drop you off at OCS. Bldg 626.

Would you still recommend bringing your car if you live over 2000 miles from OCS?

Heck, I even took my car on 3rd and 2nd class Midshipman cruises ... didn't do it on 1st class Med cruise ... too hard to ship the TR-4 over to Rota. :)

ALWAYS take wheels unless it's just not possible. You'll be glad you did ... ;)

I took mine 1200. Just change your thought of "it's a chore to bring the car" to more of a "leave a week early, and see some of the country" type of attitude. So yes, I would recommend bringing the wheels 2,000 miles.

i live in atlanta so it has nothing to do with the drive. i simply don't want my car sitting around in a lot waiting for something to happen to it.

this is a legitimate question: why would somebody need/want a car? i see everybody insisting that I bring it but i just don't understand why. I suspected i'd get this kind of response before starting this thread.

You will be able to use it for storage during the week... for those things that you don't want in your room... geedunk and what not. And more importantly, when you get liberty and want to go do something, you don't have to rely on someone else to take you.

You can do what you want, but me, personally... I'd take the advice of all the guys that have gone before you and are speaking with a single message... TAKE YOUR CAR.

If you have a car you might as well take it. I didn't have one at OCS and it wasn't a big deal, but it would have been slightly more convenient.
