Very interesting article. The author does a great job explaining the process used to calculate the numbers and the ramifications of the change.
My only question is, how do we know these are the right statistics this time? The author mentions the World Bank received help from China to recalculate the numbers, but I wonder how much help.

Not very suprising, China does some really shady things with their economy -- specially with how they control their currency.
