should i have even put down three choices? or just SNA(if that is all i want?), that is all i want, and don't think i want to accept anything else, what do you guys think. If any of you had been chosen for NFO(2nd choice) OR SWO(3rd choice) instead of your first choice would you ahve taken it. i can't reason doing something for 20 yrs that you did'nt want to do, but you put in two more choices because it asked for it.....

Your choices will determine the boards you are put in for...also, I was an SNFO for over a year (my second choice)...from the first day of OCS up to the day they told me, 9 months after completing OCS, that they ran out of pilots. I got to live the dream, because I put in what I wanted and took what I got. SWO was even my third choice...that would have been interesting.

If you just want to be a pilot, go to E.R. and get yer flight degree and go fly commercial. If you want to be an officer in the Navy, put in an app., take what you get, and live it to yer best ability.

Oh, and by the way, I talked shit about pilots while I was an SNFO...you will too.

I don't completely agree with picklesuit. I want to be an officer, but I want to be a pilot as well. Therefore I only have SNA on my application. If you're going to decline it anyways, don't bother wasting the time of the selection board.

If it's what you really want, keep fighting until you get it.

Back in 1971, my plan was to go Army OCS (Armor) if the NFO thing hadn't worked out (vision disqual for SNA). I told the Navy that straight-up...and voila! The rest is history. It was a seller's market back then, tho, what with WW Nam going on. Not saying I'd recommend it nowadays. But it was flying in the Navy or army combat arms for me, and nuthin' else.

I asked this same Q. The replies I got said put SNA only if that's what you want to do, and they were selected putting only SNA so I don't think it will hurt your chances. If anything you may be clearing up pro-recs for people who chose the other designators you would have put.

This depends on your age though. How old are you? If it's 26 or near that you may want to have a 2nd and 3rd choice if you are willing to do them for the next 8-10 years...

Did that make sense?
