"Barney" Barnum AKA the Honorable H.C. Barnum, Deputy Asst SECNAV for Reserve Affairs went ship hopping over Christmas. Barnum was awarded the Medal of Honor during Vietnam (see link for citation) as a Forward Artillery Observer who took over as Company Commander (and radioman) while in danger of being overrun.

That's awesome! I wish there were more opportunities for valor device recipients to travel around and see the troops. Consider this - a multi-service "Valor Squad" (corny name I know) that traveled around as a group. Maybe a group of 10-15 guys that have all "been at the right place at the right time." If there were more traveling together there would be more of an opportunity for them to get personal with the boot/deck plate guys who would probably greatly appreciate it.

I dunno, whataya guys think?

Very cool web site:

http://www.medalofhonor.com/

I do find it utterly shameful that we are only now bestowing the MOH to people who served and who ultimately died for their courageous actions during the Vietnam "conflict," WW II, and other that happened long ago.

I saw him one day when I was at OCS eating lunch chow. It's not every day you see someone walking around with a Medal of Honor. It was neat.

I think I saw him driving in Virginia a few weeks ago, certainly looks like him. It has been the only time I have ever seen MOH plates on a car in real life. Nice big Caddy too.

This was done a few years back (circa 2005). I heard Sammy Davis speak and he talked about it. Apparently, they sent a letter to every living recipient of the MoH asking them to go on the all-expenses-paid speaking tour. Then at the end they all got a free trip to Australia. Can't for the life of me remember what it was called and Google is failing me.

Hmm. Sounds like Col Fox. He's got a big old mans car with MOH plates and Birds hammered into the bumper of it. He drives around Virginia being an American badass.
