Hey guys how's it going?? I take the test in a few weeks and am doing the best I can to prepare. After reviewing 3 ARCO books ("Officer Candidate tests", "Military Aptitude Flight test", and "Mechanical Aptitude and Spatial Relations") and Cliffs Notes "Military Flight Aptitude Tests", I noticed the Cliffs Notes version of the Mechanical Comphrension was considerably difficult then all other. Basically it went into physics 1 type questions. The ASTB Gouge Mechanical comprehension questions seem to be more like the ARCO. (easier). Think I should stick with the Gouge as an accurate represenation of the section?? thanks!

I found that I was at a seeming disadvantage going into the test, having never took physics in high school (took ap chem instead). I felt that had I taken physics, I would have done better. It never hurts to take questions that are a bit tougher, especially now that they have changed the tests and they are apparently tougher than the older ones (I took the old one). Also, I received good advice AfTeR I took the test, and that was to go over the air force astb tests as well...it was advised that this was good preparation for the navy exam. Thing is...I don't think there is much of an accurate representation of the actual test except for that it says it is. To me, you can never be overprepared for that test! Studyyyyyyy!

I don't know about reading 3 books for this little 1.5 hr test. THE GOUGE FROM THIS SITE STILL APPLIES DIRECTLY TO THE NEW TEST. It is ALL related. If you took the sample tests on this site and blew them out of the water, then you are ready to kick ass on the ASTB. If you understood it for the most part but struggled with the details, read the gouge that comes with the sample tests. If all the material on the sample tests and gouge looked like greek to you, join the Chair Force.

You will be fine bro. Good luck.

I took Form 5 (new test) about 2 weeks ago and almost entirely bombed the mechanical section. Going into the test I thought, "I will just go over the gouge from this site and the Arco". Bad idea. There were about four of the more difficult questions from the Air Force section in the Arco and about five questions from the gouge... the rest were real world examples from books and guides I hadn't seen from. So now I am studying from a fat book (Physics: The Physical Setting) and it isn't going down like sugar. I ended up scoring 5/5/6, which means that I will have to retest on either form 3 or 4. If any of you have any info that I should go over... don't be shy and drop me line. And the chAir Force has the loveliest ladies, but Marines usually have first tabs over the other services.

I never took an Airforce test. I think we are talking about different tests. I am talking about the ASTB (aviation selection test batter). The computerized test I took was DEAD ON with the gouge. I'm sure the air force's was quite a bit different.

really? It was just like the ASTB Gouge? I'll use that as my basis for studying then. I'll tell ya, I took the astb about a year ago. I thought it was pretty tough. The reallllllly funny thing about it, is that my degree is in Applied Mathematics and Statistics...Sweet sweet ironies of life. :icon_what

Learn that gouge like the back of your hand and you will be fine... JUST with the gouge, I raised my 45 oar to a 60. IMO, its all you need

I see that you say there are sample tests on this site...I'm new to it and I'm having trouble finding them...Can anyone give me a hint as to where I might find them??
Thanks!!

Ok, so basically I'm doing the Navy gouge, cliffs notes prep test, and the ARCO prep test. Also, going to the Air force parts in all books that have sections for it.
Anything else recommended? (Other than an SAT book)
