College drug experimentation disqualify for Navy OCS

Hey everyone,

I'm a junior in college and will be graduating in 2017. I've recently decided after a lot of thinking to try for Navy OCS when I graduate.

However, I have tried marijuana in the past (no more than 5 times). Does this automatically disqualify me? What are the touch-points at which I'll have to choose to disclose this information?

Thanks for your help!

Its so silly that this is even an issue, I really think the military and government needs to grow up about past pot usage. I'm sure many brilliant non-pothead minds who used regularly on a recreational basis have been either turned down or discouraged from any sort of service. Kind of funny how they make such a big deal about smoking pot in college, but they don't ask you if you ever got behind the wheel while intoxicated or other illegal activities. MJ waivers are a thing and the officer recruiters can back me up, but only 5 times should be a piece of cake.

I have a strong gpa (3.8+) econ/polisci at a top 3 school so I think I can produce a pretty good application once I take my OAR, but I'm just super worried that it would all be in vain. So I definitely would have to seek out a waiver then? How much does this weaken an application for something like Supply Corps or SWO?

"Experimentation.."
Would love to see the hypothesis and the controls for this "experiment."
Sorry, science nerd came out...
I don't think it is a show stopper, just be honest...

This is not going to destroy your chances, at least for getting a Pro-Y at board. Give the board 100 other reasons to say yes by building a killer application when you apply.

you would be surprised how few MJ waivers I had to do, or how few MJ waivers my NRD had to do, and this was without coaching, just asking "have you ever tried MJ?" of course they could have looked up the info earlier and told me what I wanted to hear, but that would be a lot of coincidences.
