College Programmers

Have any other college programmers been told that there are virtually no full scholarships being given to college programmers for the foreseeable future? I also found out that no Midshipmen 3/C were given 3 year scholarships last year, which, from what I've gathered, is quite a contrast compared to 2 or 3 years ago.

That's basically what we were told today by our CO, was just wondering if that's the same across the board for all universities.

At our battalion (100+ people), there were no Navy scholarships given out last year besides the Leadership scholarships given out each semester. We did have about 8 Marine Options pick up scholarship throughout the year/summer and we had one 3/C Navy college programmer pick up a Leadership scholarship this semester.

What you've said is pretty much what I've heard, even talking to others while on CORTRAMID.

That sucks. The Leadership Scholarship is awesome- it pays to be the best. Kick ass in school and get as involved as you can in the unit.

Look into BDCP and OCS too, it's not ROTC, but they're great programs. If you truly want to be a Naval Officer, don't take no for an answer.

Yeah, thing is I need some kind of financial assistance if I'm gonna stay at this school so I'm looking into BDCP as well.

I know I've seen this answered but can you apply to BDCP while on College Program before your junior year?

We had the same speech here at the start of the year for our freshman class and none of the college programmers picked up a scholarship from Pensacola in my class over the summer. If you are a programmer though, that leadership scholarship is mighty fine, be noticable in a good way and keep your grades up. It doesn't go to a board and is entirely up to your CO for selection so long as you get past DODMERB after being selected. Going to my second semester advising, having the nomination for the scholarship at the bottom of my fitrep almost made me faint ;).

Also there are so many other programs out there that aren't ROTC as mentioned above. BDCP ect... there is also still Advanced Standing.

zero of the 4/c college programmers in my unit recieved one over the summer - only one scholarship was given out, which was the CO's pocket scholarship. Its happening everywhere.
