Color Deficient SNA applicant

Hey all, currently in the process of applying for SNA. Still have yet to go to meps but I took the ASTB a couple days ago and scored quite well. However, when I was collecting all of my documents for meps I realized I was noted as slightly red green color deficient. I never noticed until I saw this on the optometrists notes. Are there aviators who are slightly color deficient that made it through? I also understand that it depends entirely on the extent of the deficiency, but I’m just curious to hear if it happens.

depends on what you mean by "slight deficiency".

if you can get 12 out of 14 plates correct, then you pass. if not, they you don't. it's possible to pass with a very mild deficiency, so it depends on what test you've already had.

SWO has similar color vision requirements - lot of red/green lights at night at sea....

I know that Marine Corps ground allows for color blindness, not sure what other communities do

best of luck

Thank you, I’ll just have to see how it goes.

haha oof, good one griz ? Everyone does have a plan until they get punched in the mouth... What do you guys think about Intel? OAR is 61 (not sure if it matters but astb is 8/8/7) and I have a current GPA of 3.65 in finance and international business (it will be 3.7 at the end of this semester). I also have a couple of internships under my belt with a financial management firm and Boeing in their treasury department.

You could be a good fit. In the end it is about how you want to serve your nation and what they need from you. I admire your attitude about taking the test and seeing where it goes. Also, don’t forget there is more than one military service. Best wishes in your search.

I absolutely agree with what you're saying, I am just trying to determine where I could best do so. I appreciate all of the feedback guys, I recognize that going aviation with a deficiency is ridiculous (not like I will be given the choice). It is just something I will need to accept.

Given your grades it is worth a shot, but given you are color deficient just don't be given paint color recommendations to the guys in your division.
