Total Flight Time

How much flight time should I expect to accumulate as a jet pilot through out 20 years in the Corps. I know that the number for every unit and an individual pilot will deviate a bit, but are there any average guesstimates out there?

My uncle ended up with just over 2000hrs, but I think he was flying a desk early in his career.

2000 hours in how many years?

most guys finish their first fleet tour with around 1400-1500 hours total, and thats after roughly 5 yrs of flying (Fam 1 through last fleet squadron flight).

Zab, you are thinking of just P-3 types. 2000 hours is a hell of a lot harder to get in Tacair. To give you 2 examples, our resident Air Force pilot is going to retire with a little over 3000 hours after a 24 year career. My CO is approaching 3000 hours, and he had an extra flying tour. Most of the JO's leave their first VAQ tour with around 700-800 hours now. We probably fly a bit more often than a P-3 type but our flights are usually something like 1.2-2.0 at home. I did a 10.4 one time in the back of a Prowler, I was ready to go friggin nuts when I got out of the jet.

I'm gonna take a guess (name: SKIDKID, title: Cobra Guy). I'm pretty sure he flies Cobras.

If you really want hours, you need to get to the training command. Figure that the IP's fly about 3 times the amount of hours per year that a fleet bubba does.

I'll second that. 20 some years ago my dad got out of the Navy with something like 2000 hours with just one tour (7 years at the time I think). More than half of his hours were in an TA-4. Though I think he only flew as an instructor for two years. He told me that if you were a batchelor instructor you could get about as much time as you want. Reason being, most of the married guys didn't want to fly long xc's every weekend. So I would guess it really depends on your platform. Also this information could be updated for modern times and branch.
