Commissioning Question

metro

The future of the Supply Corps
Quick question about getting commissioned/first salute.

Can a close family friend, who was at one time a commisioned officer (O-3) in the Marines, but who forfeited his commission (in order to go to work for the CIA), commission me or give me my first salute, or, better yet, both?

Not sure about Commissioning you (don't think so, but I'm not sure), but generally the first salute is from an Enlisted person.

Anyone can swear you in for the private 'ceremony', they will just have to get a commissioned officer to swear you in and sign the official paperwork. You can get your OCS Class Officer to give you a hand with that part. You will need an Enlisted Man or Woman to give you your first salute. I'm sure your OCS Gunny would be happy to do it.
I'm not certain they do private ceremonies at OCS. I had a friend graduate and they did a group swearing in. Anyone know different?

At OCS, you can arrange for someone to privately commission you before the group swear in. If you don't have anyone for a first salute, don't sweat it, you're gonna get it from your Class DI and Class Chief. In fact, you'll still get the salute from them even if you arrange for someone else to give you your first salute (meaning it's gonna cost you extra silver dollars :))

Ok...a first salute MUST be from a currently or previously ENLISTED person...obviously any commissioned officer warrants a salute from you being an Ensign/2nd LT not the other way around.
