Could this be a show stopper?

I am currently in the BDCP program with a SNA designator. My class entrance date is July 16th of next year. Just yesterday, I was playing a rugby match against University of Duluth-Minnesota when an opponent and I collided heads pretty much at full speed. He walked away without a scratch, but my mouth is a disaster right now. I have a fractured jaw where my jaw holds some of my teeth together and about 4 of my teeth are bent in quite a bit. Luckily, I was able to find a dentist willing to work on Saturday and she fixed me up pretty well. The grocery list for fixing me up is going to be 4 root canals (on my incisors) 2 splints (kinda like braces, only they are meant to keep my teeth from falling out), and either some braces or probably a wicked looking retainer after a couple weeks or so. I havent talked to the dentist about how this will affect me long term. Probably safe to say that I wont playing rugby ever again or enjoying a steak for awhile. :icon_rage

It sounds pretty disgusting I know, but it could be worse. My biggest concern is going to be how this affects my standing with the navy and my recruiter. I would like to know if anyone has been in something close to this situation before and if they know how this will affect my standing.

I think it is likely this will not be a showstopper, but I dont know all the injuries they give you the boot for and Id like to have an idea before I have to talk (aka mumble) to my recruiter on monday.

Cheers,
Nate :D

make sure the dentists know you want to go into a flight billet. Teeth are much closer to your sinuses than you might think. I had a buddy get a root canal 2 yrs ago, active duty USN Pilot, and he is still dealing with sinus/ear problems, med up/med down thanks to a sh!tty dentist. Let them know you will be dealing with pressure issues at altitude.

As far as (serious) injuries and BDCP goes... you're probably fine. I got hurt just short of a year ago and was NPQ for a while. When I healed up I had my civilian doc clear me and the Navy removed the NPQ from my name. My injuries had nothing to do with my mouth so I can't really speculate on how they'll handle you, but things for me were fine. Good luck and try to keep yourself safe!
