CRT and vision/OCS

It's mind games!
Hey guys. im new to the form and wanted to ask a question/give some backround on myself. Im 22, junior in college, have a PPL and am saving for my instrument. I work at the airport loading planes for FedEx at nights and have my own business that i run 3 days a week during the day (the other two im in school).

up until now i have been going for a guard slot, but have recently decided to go navy. im not extremely familiar with the paths to getting a pilot slot with the navy, but i was reading the vision thread posted by wink, and i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of CRT (corneal refractive therapy). working for fedex, i have had the opportunity to meet many former and current military pilots. my eyes are right on the brink of the navy's limit, so i have some concerns. However, i now have known for some time, two navy pilots, and one af pilot who used CRT lenses to pass their flight physicals. for those of you who dont know, CRT lenses are special contacts one can wear at night that temporarily reshape the cornea of the eye, so that when removed, vision is 20/20 for a few days or so. the navy knows about these, and the use of these lenses prior to physicals is obviously not permitted. however, the pilots i know used them, and lied on their physicals. obviously they made it through. i would like to know some of your guys thoughts on this matter, and whether or not you think it would be possible to use these through ocs to pass flight physicals. thank you for your time.

No, No, No

I'll give it to you this way: don't lie on your app. Don't lie on your physical. Don't lie. Period, end of story.

Case and point: I almost didn't get my commission because someone THOUGHT i was lying... I wasn't, and the truth was uncovered. But someone thought I was lying, and it almost fvcked me.

Case and point #2: When I was in Philly working with the recruiting office, we had a BDCP applicant get denied b/c his securtity clearance paprerwork and his BDCP application didn't mesh on some rather important issues.

If you even have to ask that question, keep working for FedEx.

This is what everyone else is going to tell you: "If you think thats the way to go, I don't want you in my plane or on my wing. IF you get a commission, you're being entrusted with the well being of troops... both officers and enlisted sailors... and with the defense of the nation. The physical is for safety purposes, to make sure you're healthy enough to learn how to pilot an aircraft. If your vision is bad, get PRK or the soft contact lens waiver. Don't cheat. You will get found out." (Or some variation thereof)

Seriously dude, give a long hard thought about what you're asking here. Then answer your own question. If you still think you should use those lenses, don't even go talk to a recruiter.

Hope you've learned something.

And by the way, welcome to the boards. Great first post.

Can we lock this?
