crunches

I've been practicing my crunches and I was just wondering something... we're supposed to touch our legs with our elbows right? Does anyone else feel like they have to get all the way off the ground to get there elbows there? Do I just have short arms or something? Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but if I do get my elbows all the way there, it could hardly be called a crunch because my whole back is off the ground. Any suggestions???

You have to do curl ups, not crunches. Crunches are way too easy.

The trick to it is you have to bring your knees up close. Have your ankles almost touching your glutes. And you fold your arms across your stomach, not your chest. Your OSO should be able to show you for your PFT.

rahall nailed it right on the head. It's all about getting the right technique down and then just doing it. If you're doing sit-ups 5 days a week you should have 100 easy.

FlyNavy is right, they are not "crunches." If you look at the PFT manual (or rather the PFT pages of your application packet), the diagram shows the back completely off the ground. I also thought that the newer style situps sound much easier, but the real difference is not very much. The gunny at my OSO said the change was made so Marines don't hurt their necks as much. Even if that wasn't why the change was made, it sounds reasonable.
