Start and finish a 1-year master’s degree. You have until 42.
Hello!
I am 38 yr old, with a BS in Finance, GPA 2.8 (I know)
I am the CEO of a development and construction company I founded 8 years ago. I have 50 employees and an annual budget of $30m.
Will have a LOR from a USCG 0-5.
Wondering what my chances are (go ahead roast me), and also, if you think a PMP certificate will help offset my GPA... i graduated 14 years ago!
Thank you
Pros:
- Have not reached the age limit
- CEO role holds weight and shows leadership/ other skills needed to be a Supply officer.
Cons:
- Low GPA/ No Master's Degree ( I would suggest a Masters to get a culminative GPA). Yes Certs will help PMP and Six Sigma Certificate.
-LOR's; 1 isn't enough you need 4 minimum and you have the best chance with Navy Officers from Supply Corps 05 and above ( Find Officers on LinkedIn and connect with them and get a Mentor).
-Not Prior service so no Evals or Military awards or know the Navy culture/ have been deployed.
I'd say you chances are very low ( 2 out of 10) if you applied right now. Your competition have all of those above and more! If you have had everything you're missing then it was fall on your Interviews only like the rest of us.
Thank you! I have considered this and understand the perception. I am currently working on my motivational statement and hope to offset and set myself apart from resume padding. I worked really hard to be in the position I am in!Just adding to this, civilian resumes and roles can easily be padded or simply inaccurate. I can be a "CEO" of my own company and claim various accomplishments, responsibilities, etc.
I am not saying this is you, but keep that in mind.
I would also take a very holistic and candidate approach at looking at the DCO Supply Program Authorization and see what specific requirements you have, don't have, and plans to boost your profile.
Thank you! I appreciate the detailed reply. Understood regarding LOR, I was just listing the best one I can get.Pros:

As a DCO suppo take this advise. The board cares more about LORs from reputable mentors they absolutely do NOT have to be military. They understand not everyone has military connections. 5 solid letters is a good number. The board only has a limited time to view each package so make it worth their time.Thank you! I am interested in how the linkedin reach out works in practice as it’s often suggested in these threads. I’m willing
