Deadline Worries- Board On Wednesday

Hey, I'm posting to say that I'm nervous about my OSO making sure my package hits this coming board; I've been working on the paperwork, testing, et cetera, for submitting an NFO/EOD/Intel package for about a month now, and it sounded like everything was okay. At the last minute, my recruiter told me there was an issue with the transcript (It's from a UK University, and while the Education Specialist Officer verified that the degree definitely qualifies, there's no standardized way to calculate a GPA from it), said I might not make this deadline.

Then, my OSO emailed me with an all-caps header of CHANGE and asked for a scan of my high school transcript on Friday. I sent it this morning and haven't been able to hear from them since. They've been pretty difficult to contact via phone throughout the process.

I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to ensure my package is submitted in time for the June 19th deadline. Should I make plans to go into my local Navy Recruiting Command and speak with someone about it tomorrow? Is there any particular person besides by OSO I should attempt to contact who can make sure things happen smoothly?

The issue isn't necessarily that your OR has your package in time, it's that it needs to make it through processing from your recruiter's office, the regional NRD, and then to recruiting command. If I were you I'd call and email him tomorrow to make sure it gets out the door (if you have your processor's contact info from your recruiter's office, even better and you should contact them). The board that I think you're talking about isn't supposed to meet until July 15th and is only for Pilot/NFO/SWO. Since it's not supposed to meet for a month, you may have some flexibility in getting it in but there are others on here way more qualified than me that know the ins and outs of how application deadlines work.

Officer recruiters are sometimes difficult to get in contact with. I've gone through the same thing and a combination of me not being persistent and my original OR being overloaded has caused my application process to drag on for almost a year now. Best of luck.

Even though the board convenes in a month, the deadline to have applications submitted to CNRC is the 19th of June which is this Wednesday.

Right I was just saying if his app is already in he may get a little leniency from CNRC if it was them that asked for something supplemental. If it was the NRD or his local processor that asked for it he may be in a bit more difficult of a situation. Again though, not sure if the deadline is hard, meaning they won't accept any new information on an applicant, or if they accept things like this here and there.

Oh ok I see what you mean now. I have heard that CNRC does accept updates to applications once the deadline has come and gone, but I don't know how much true there is to this rumor.

Odds are you are not going to make this board.

I take it this is an undergrad degree? if so that is the difficult part, I have dealt with this before with graduate degrees from the UK and that wasn't a problem.

There will be another board and since you are applying for EOD at least you know that you are PQ.

The only way to do an update is for the application to be reject and returned to the NRD to do the updates, and then it is past the deadline.

Everyone, thanks very much for all the information. I called the Navy Recruiting Command's Education Policy Questions number and the individual there said that if the Education Specialist Officer had already approved the degree, it was likely that the transcript was just there because the degree was hard to adjudicate as a GPA, so prior education was brought in to shed light on myself as a whole person. He did say he thought it was doable to make this coming board, and other things he said implied that he was the person Education Specialist Officers go to when they have a problem, which makes him sound pretty knowledgable. NavyOffRec, it is a UK undergraduate degree.

Ultimately, it sounds like the one thing I can do is call my OSO tomorrow and request they do their best to put the paperwork in on time. I'm focusing on that and the fact that the OSO told me not to worry too much, as they anticipated within another month, there would be another board calling for NFOs.

One good thing is that my OSO works inside the NRD (headquarters, or whatever it's called) for my region, as I'm near one of the two major metropolitan areas in the state. I was also told the commander of the site was told about me and was optimistic about what I could do for the Navy, so I may be brazen enough to try and contact that Commander to see if they are able to expedite things in any way. All my previous information-Medical Forms, LORs, SF-86, ASTB, et cetera, has been there for some time, so hopefully it's doable.

Found out there were still a couple other things that needed to be done anyway with my package on my end, so it's really not a huge deal. The OSO says there's going to be a board in about a month to a month and a half for NFOs anyway, so I'd still be applying for NFO before boards for my other job choices even came up. Not a huge deal.
