Debating to Retake ASTB

Hey all,
While I've been reading this board for a while, this is my first time posting. I just recently got back my ASTB scores and I received a 50 on the OAR and 4/4/4. I took version 3 of the exam. I would really like to get those 4's up so I am considering retaking this exam. I see that alot of people in previous posts have described what they encountered on version 3, but can anyone who has retaken the ASTB tell me what versions 4 and 5 are like, and how they might compare. Any additional information would be wonderful. Thanks!

I am pretty sure that if you retake the test, your new scores are the ones that you get, even if they ended up lower. They won't just take the higher of the two, so make sure that you study for it. I got pretty good scores, but wanted to take it to be more competitive, and was told not to unless I can do better.

Can anyone confirm this? I dont want to be putting bad info out there...

I realize this did not answer even one of your questions, but something to keep in mind while studying...

Yes, they take the most recent score. However, with a 4/4/4 you are going to wanna retake that test. I am currently applying for the Marines with a 6/6/6, however, I applied to the Navy last year with a 5/5/4 and although prof. recommended, I did not get selected. A 4/4/4 isn't going to be competitive for the Navy at all right now and it isn't passing for the Marine Corps.

I have a BA in English and have been outta school for two years now. If I can do it so can you. Just buckle down. I have heard for the Navy they want like 7s or 8s across the board with an OAR of 60+ which is a bit outta range for me.......... Good luck!

Thanks for the info E6286...but would you be able to tell me how the test differed the 2nd time around? I mean, was the material pretty similiar to the first version or is it pretty different?
I know I will do better the 2nd time around b/c I have more of an idea of what to study, I just don't want to leave anything out. Oh yeah, I was a Music Performance major! How's that for the Navy's list of diverse applicants :)

The second version is pretty similar to the first, however the third version is substantially harder in the mechanical comprehension in my opinion. Unfortunately I had to take it 3 times, missed by a point first time (applying for the marines OCC 190), second time got screwed over by the people taking care of my test and not getting it in the right time period after taking the first one (submit on the 31st day not 30th) and the third time....finally made it. Study and retake it. Good luck.
