well i just got my denial for my #1 choice of pilot on a bdcp app. my recruiter tells me he'll look into it, maybe get some reasons, see if there's anything i can do to make a stronger presentation.

i thought i had a good shot; letters of rec from retired navy turned professors, 3.9 gpa in oceanography, extracurrics and even study abroad and foreign language skills. my oar was a 54.

i'm not totally shocked; i'll be happy making supply. be still, a bit let down. just thought i had a stronger app.

wow that sucks, sorry man, i'm applying for pilot as well. my stats are lower than yours too, looks like ill be joining you in the denied category. keep trying though, no reason why u should give up.

That does suck. Your package sounded strong except the ASTB. I would bet if you retook it and got like a 60 something with 8's and 9's you would be good to go.

maybe you should give NFO a shot, i was denied for pilot but made NFO! You'd still be flying just not in the driver's seat

That sucks for sure. I'm with zuggerat because my stats aren't any better than that either. Hopefully if I get the same news they'll still pick me up for NFO.

You may not be able to find out but its possible you were a non-select because of security or physical reasons....or there just aren't any new pilot slots out there. Who knows?

If you definitely want to fly, I'd reapply. No use in taking your second choice just because, right? My $.02.

Dont get discouraged. I was denied the first time I applied for SNA and NFO but I sent in my second app last month and I was pro-reced for SNA. I'm just trying to finish up all of the Findocs. Anyways, back to my point. Try putting in an honest effort to imporve everything in your package and then resubmit. I didnt improve a lot on any one thing in my package but I did improve everything I think that is the most important thing. If the board sees that you busted your butt to improve yourself they will see that you are serious about the Navy. Also, my recruiter said that having flight experience on my second app (had 0 hours on first app) helped out a lot. If you can afford it you might want to look into trying to rack up a couple hours.

Matt, how many hours did you have on your second app?

I have about 75 now but I'd like to know if that is low/hi/doesn't matter...

about 40 but I am enrolled in a professional pilot school also so that might make a diff. Not sure I know my recruiter said he had a guy apply that about like 2100 hours and had Private, IFR, multi and single commercial, CFI, CFII, and ATP. So I guess if you compare it to him both of us are losers but from what I've seen on here and heard from others you are about average as far as hours go. Do you have your instrument rating yet?

my recruiter told me the navy is just overmanned on pilots and taking almost no one. guess the heat's really on for you other dudes looking to fly if he's right.

Don't take it personally dude. I have wings now, and I would probably get denied a pilot slot if I was coming out of college this year. The F-14 went away, and the S-3 is going to be close behind it. When you add in the fact that the airlines have not been taking new pilots for at least 3 years, the Navy just has more pilots than it knows what to do with. I know that right now, the A-Pool at API is huge and is only going to get bigger after Ivan screwed everything up. ROTC units all around the country are sending new Ensigns on temporary duty to various places for 6 to 8 months because of the backup in Pensacola. Most 2004 graduates will be LTJG's before they finish primary. When things like this happen, the first place to get their numbers cut is OCS. It is the fastest way to get stop off the flow of new people into an already overstocked system.

I doubt that it makes you feel any better, but at least you know the reason.

man this sucks... i still got 2 more years in school, so at least ill have something to keep me busy

Zuggy, I hear ya! How you doin'?!

My GPA is not the best in the world, in fact it is probably the worst on the board. But hey I am improving by leaps and bounds and come this time next year, I will have a package in front of the board. Having PRK in December and wait for the 6 months stabalization period, then my package goes in. In mean time I am improving everything about myself.

Zuggy, when do you graduate, what year are you applying for? I will graduate Dec 2006, so I am applying for a 07/08 slot.

Keep in touch!
