Devildog Scores

I saw a thread up in another section about scores and such, but I wasn't sure which of those were Navy guys, PLCers or OCC folks. I wanted to know what scores were typical for the Marines out there ... esp OCC folks.

My package goes forward tomorrow - A little worried, I have 7/7/7 and a 65. My PFT was a 245 (my run sucks).

Anyone else?

thanks

I thought there was a thread that had USMC scores stickied but couldnt find it. I am sure someone will chime in on your test scores (I honestly dont remember what was/is "good" anymore).
Your PFT is probably on the low side for an OCC guy, OCS is all about running so there is something to focus on.
If your GPA, letters of rec are all solid I would think you should be in good shape, remember the Marin Corps is supposed to grow by a lot in the next few years I would think that would equate to more slots.
Good luck and go run, Im sure someone younger will chime in on your test scores.

I opened this hoping to read something about me scoring ... :icon_smil
Running was not my strongest point at the start, but it is something you can build upon as time goes on, so keep working on it. Do some sprinting as well as long distance, yada yada, its all been covered in depth on here. OCS is not forgiving in the running category, so be well prepared before you go as it will help leaps and bounds. Work very hard at maxing your crunches and pullups. Having 200 pts before the run is a good start.
As for your ASTB numbers, I must do as Skidkid did and defer to the younger devils.

I wouldn't be all that worried. I had a 6/6/6 53 when I got in although I had a 280 for the physical which probably helped a bit. It's hard to comment though because of the many differences between each candidate. Some guys have all sorts of extra curriculars or good letters with lower scores while some guys have really high scores with not much else. I don't know how much I can really say other than provide you with a little info about my package when I got in.

I'll echo the previous sentiment. Your ASTB score is good enough. I wouldn't worry about it. Your PFT score SUCKS...at least for officer material. Total candor. You gotta be better than your enlisted guys. Depending on where you go, enlisted Marines average around a 245. If your GPA is good, your record is clean, and you have good recommendations, you're going to be good. I don't think they would reject you solely on PFT as long as its first class.

I'm at primary right now, but I went to the winter '06 OCC (191) with 6/6/6 and a 271 (which I boosted up to 296 while at OCS.) From what I've heard, at least recently, the Marine Corps is pretty much taking ASTB scores as a pass/fail event. Hell, my roommate got a waver for 5s, and he's making it through the program fine so far. Sure, you want your scores as high as possible. But right now, worry more about your run time, as people have been saying. I went to OCC running a 20:00 pft and I was about average. You're slow there if you can't run 3 seven minute miles.

I will be applying for the summer '08 OCC for Ground. I am at a 255 right now for my pft. 100 SU, 15 PU, 20:45 Run. I hope to max my PU and get my Run under 20 for my final package. I have a 3.4 GPA. I have been pretty active in school and held some leadership positions. My OSO mentioned something about the Marine Corps may be getting rid of the recomendations, but I don't know for sure. I have my app. in to my OSO and I head to MEPS next week. I have to take the ASVAB because I only had a 21 on my ACTS. I hope everything goes well. Good luck to everyone else!

What kind of references did you have? And how many more than the required ones? GPA etc..?

Is it bad to not have many extracurriculars? I've been filling out my packet and that area seems a little empty. I know it depends on the other aspects of my packet, but I'm just worried that I need to join some clubs or something.

I assume it can't hurt if you have the time.

i think your astb scores are good to go. i just reported to matsg a few weeks ago and don't start api for a while, but most guys i've talked to scored around 7s or below. i've heard 6 a lot and i scored a 5/5/5, yup got the one point waiver. i did come from nrotc and had a 300 with a great rec from CO and MOI, so that probably helped. my advice: if you have time, start pounding out some miles, toss in some speed workouts, and improve that run time. if you need any help coming up with a plan pm me. Advice to all those who are waiting to class up for tbs - request an early report and try to knock out ifs before you start tbs. the guys down here in pcola who did so are likely going to get api before us non-ifsers. happy independence day to all.

wanted to revive the thread in hopes that new devildogs (especially OCCers) getting picked up for air will post their scores (ASTB and PFT)

You're ASTB is great. When I scored an 8/8/8 67 my OSO started referring guys to me for tips and such before they took the test. So nothing for you to to worry about there.

I was selected for OCC-196 as an SNA, but I also scored a 292 on the PFT.

Get that PT score up and you'll have no problem getting selected.
