It will be interesting to see how they handle a not so happy ending.

That will be interesting. Hollywood's addiction to immortal cast members and happy endings sometimes works against them from a storytelling perspective. I found that to be one of the weak points of TG2. The post-BASH-fire-ejection scene where Maverick tells Rooster "There will be others" was a  moment for me. Others, as in what? Others who will eject and not have a scratch on them? Yup, you called it, Mav.

I will say that I thought the moment where Maverick had just gotten his ass chewed for fighting below HD, and then immediately presented the admiral his folder containing his waiver request to fight below the HD was pretty funny and fairly true to Navy (though I don't recall if it had a proper routing sheet, and I do believe the folder should have likely been red)....

Everyone needs to evaluate TG2 the same way they evaluate a ready room story . . . remember the 10 percent rule. If it's good and it's fun, it only needs to be 10 percent true/accurate.

Second trailer reveals this will be an awesome film!!! I see Corsairs, Bearcats, and Skyraiders... Need some better shots of AWG's and G1's - it looks like whomever did the uniforms and gear got things right. O2 masks and helmets look period correct.

I just spent this past weekend in Vanderhoof Canada at an airshow, and Mike Oliver was there with an F8F Bearcat from the Erickson Collection in Oregon. It turns out Mike was the one that flew most of the warbird sequences in the movie. Side note: there are only 11 flying Bearcats today.

He said they avoided CGI whenever they could... what you'll see is the often real thing. Sounded like he had a great experience doing the movie, and that the cinematography will be something pilots will enjoy.

Yes, the Bearcat arrived too late for WWII. I believe VF-19 was "on the boat" enroute to the war when it ended.

And since the Bearcat was more of a fleet point-defense fighter, it was too lightly armored for Korea. That was a ground war, and there was no real place for the Bearcat. I think the only real combat the plane saw was with the French in Indo-China, and I have no clue if it was effective there.

But... as a Reno Race fan... I think it's great to see and hear going around the pylons!

I actually went and Googled after the trailer, because I'd never realized before that the Gypsies transitioned to the F8F, then BACK to the F4U, then to jets with the F9F.

Saw Devotion last night on the big screen. Thumbs up! The photography and flight sequences are wonderful. A mix of real-life iron and CGI derived from real-life. USS Leyte was CGI of course (and not terribly well done, we can excuse that). The story suffered I think from the emphasis on the dramatic portrayal of the characters and the acting. Seeing the movie made me want to read the book. Many technical details will please the avgeek/history/mil geeks. From the correct wearing of Aviation Greens and G1's to the cotton sateen flight suits of the time, to the model H1 (white, hard shell) flight helmets and O2 masks and Mk2 survival/flotation vests. I would have thought the anti-exposure suits would have been portrayed (a la "Bridges of Toko-Ri") - perhaps omitted for dramatic purposes. The LSO sequences were a bit comical - lol.

A-Dubs will of course wonder how ENS Brown made it to the fleet and combat so quickly as an ENS and how long his "wait" was in Primary! (what percent gets Corsairs?)

An epic story and the movie deserves a viewing. Enjoy!!!
