I have been trying to convince my friend to enlist with me but he only wants to do aircraft maintenance and he is worried that they wont give him that contract becuase he has two class c misdemeanors, one for minor in possesion of tobacco and another for posession of a marijuana pipe, he got both when he was 17 i believe, not sure if that matters. Does this disgualify him? or does he need a waiver or what?
thanks for any advice

On the enlisted side that is highly unlikely to be a problem, as long as he isn't still partaking in the drugs. Tell him to make sure he admits everything when he's filling out his paperwork, because they will find it when they run his security clearance. A waiver for that should come through no problem though. As always, consult a recruiter, and let him know that NOTHING is guaranteed unless it's in writing.

The waiver won't be any problem, but I would tell him to use strong caution and only go to boot camp because he wants to be a Marine above all else. What I mean is, if he just wants to be a aircraft maintenance guy there are plenty of opportunities for that in other branches or the civilian sector.

Take it for what it is worth, I served five years active duty in the Corps' airwing.

Depending on where you are in the United States, it really depends on your district. Some districts it not a big deal, for other it might be a big deal. Your best bet is to talk to an OSO and find out from the horses mouth. At worst he might tell you to go reserves then try to go PLC afterwards. In any even, your friend should at least ask an OSO first before giving up hope. I hope this helps.

I had a marijuana waiver, and I was still able to get a contract for avionics, an even more specific field of aircraft maintenance.
