Distant Learning

When applying for OCS, how much of a difference does the college you went to and what type of college it is make on you being accepted? Or is it more about GPA and ASTB score? I am interested in Thomas Edison State College or maybe some other distant learning college but if going to a real university will give me a better chance at being accepted I will do that instead.

Thanks for any help,
Michael Walden

I know a LCDR who flew for the Blues who went to the Community College down the street, then to OCS; pick your college for how you want to spend your college years, with the caveat that too much partying or too much staring at wind tunnel results on the computer screen can screw your chances of being an aviator. It really is all up to what your goals are, and whether at your graduation your goals and the Navy's synch up properly. It sounds like you'll be fine, so don't sweat it and enjoy your time. But don't waste it...consider that Last Samurai line "life in every breath" (dumb movie, good ideal), and make the next four years count for something, should the Navy thing not work out right. This also means go somewhere, distance learning is for poor Australian schoolchildren.
