Do I need a better ASTB score

My ASTB scores are 57 7/7/7. I was not selected at the most recent board. My recruiter tells me that I have a very competitive application for SNA. I have a lot of leadership experience, my GPA is 3.5, great LOR's (2 from 0-6's), and I am in excellent shape. My question is do I need to retake the ASTB and get 60+ and 8's in order to get a SNA spot?

Hey Hoogie, your scores seem fine to me. I just got pro rec'd SNA from the last board that met and my scores were pretty much identical to yours...57 8/7/7, but my GPA was a little higher (3.89). But I didn't even have any LOR's from any military officers! I'm pretty confinced that they take the whole person into account, I really don't see your test scores holding you back.

Hey mserver, pro rec'd means PROFESSIONALLY RECOMMENDED. This pretty much means that you've been picked up by one of the three communities you applied to after the submission of your advance documents to the boards. A pro rec is what everyone is hoping for because it means that you have the opportunity to continue with the application process and seek out that most coveted FINAL SELECT and OCS DATE!

Hey purdue what was your major? Your GPA seems a little low. Congrats man wish I was where you are!

Thanks for the input everyone. It's nice to hear from some guys that were pick'd up, who were in front of the same board as me. I'm still waiting to hear back from one other board, SPECWAR, my first choice.

My GPA was the only thing on my app that wasn't great. I had great LORs, a sob story, and my recruiter was amazing. I just got lucky. It's been said a million times on this website, it's about the whole person, not just their GPA/major.

hey theobbq,

I don't know about everyone else but I've never flown a day in my life (sure I've been the passenger but never the driver), and I still got pro rec'd. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I'm guessing it's about 50-50 in terms of guys who do and don't have flight experience. Flight experience is definitely a plus and will give you a slight advantage once you move on to flight school, but its not a necessity.
