Do I really need to bring anything to OCS???

I was in the USMC for 5 years and during our bootcamp all you brought was the clothes that were on your back. I have seen the list of things to bring and have all the paperwork that is required. Now my question is should I bring the crew necks, towels, etc or will there be a chance to get them once I arrive at OCS? If so, what do you guys recommend doing? Is there anything on the list that you guys feel is an absolute must to bring?

Bring a towel or two, you will get more but it would be handy to have. You can bring whatever you think you might need. If when you get there and think you dont need it, just put it with the rest of your civilian attire and bag. Anything more specific you have questions about? The lists you have seen should pretty much cover everything.

Thank you for the reply but I am not sure if that was clear in my question, I was asking about Navy OCS. Sorry about the mixup.

The gear you bring with you will be needed during the first week of training. You do not get any additional gear issued until the first Wed. Don't be that guy who didn't bring anything and has to borrow from everyone else.

Agreed with nugget, everything that is on the list on the OCS website is needed in that first week...trust me you will use it all!!

Make sure to bring a few packages of ankle socks and colorful boxers. Oh, and those v-neck undershirts too.

Seriously, you'll need the stuff on the list. Just bring it and if you don't use no big deal. i'd rather show up overprepared than unprepared.

Im not planning on driving to OCS so besides the locker I wont have anywhere to store stuff. Or will I? I ask because I was curious about cell phones I understand that it would be dumb to use it except on liberty. Does anybody have any insight i.e. cell phones, calling cards alot of change?

You won't be allowed to have your cell phone except on liberty and during candio phase. You'll have an opportunity to buy a calling card once you get to OCS that you can use during designated periods.

Bring your golf clubs......and a frisbee. Enjoy.
Make sure to roll them out at the sea-wall as well, to let the current candi-o's know you enjoy a good round of golf. Great conversation starter. ;)

...seriously though, bring what's on the list. Yes, you'll be issued stuff, but you'll need stuff in the meantime.
