Does a degree from georgetown help?

I am a recent graduate of georgetown and I am applying for a commission through OCS. I graduated with a 3.65 GPA in International Politics with a strong focus on East Asia. I have native status of a foreign language along with some strong character references. but my astb score is only 44 (never did well on SATs either). my questions are:

1. with my interest in int'l politics and east asia, what jobs should i apply for? (intel, supply, etc)
2. does my academic background offset my crappy astb scores enough for me to be competitive?

ASTB only a 44? Is that just for the OAR? ASTB has several parts. AQR/PFAR/FOFAR and OAR what were the rest of these scores?

Regardless, apply for whatever jobs interest you.

Good academics might help to offset weaker parts of the package. Not sure how much though.

If you're not satisfied with your ASTB OAR, take it again, sounds like you have no where to go but up with a little preparation.

Georgetown is a great school, but I don't think that carries as much weight with the board as you'd like, if/when you get selected, you'll see there are people from big-name schools, and some from no-name schools...bottom line is once you're commissioned, you're the same rank. Don't be one of those pricks who thinks he's entitle to more because he went to an elite school. That'll make you about as popular as petting a rattlesnake.

Some of the intel people in my class didn't even take the ASTB. After all, it is the aviation selection test battery. You might want to ask your recruiter how heavily the ASTB is weighted for an intel candidate (or other non-aviation candidate). I think some recruiters just administer the test to everyone.

I'm pretty sure the OAR section is a requirement for most designators. Obviously, you're not going to worry about the 9/9/9 scores, but so far, I only know of Nuke and CEC not taking the ASTB.
