First, a question: I heard some talk that once I get my OCS date, I could request an earlier one. Is this true?
Second but foremost, I did a search and couldn't find a conclusive answer to this question. It's an easy question to answer, but a weird situation:
I was pro rec in April and have been since waiting to get my Final Select. I was under the impression at the time that as soon as I get my Final Select letter, I can swear in, and would immediately (somehow automated) receive my OCS date. Since talking to my recruiter two days ago, he told me two things:
1) My Final Select letter has been "routed for signature". I interpret this as it's been printed, it's just waiting on a high-ranking O to sign.
2) Once the letter gets back to the recruiter's office/me, I can swear in. After that, I'll be put in the pool to find out my OCS date, which will be sometime around 3 weeks from then (possibly longer).
I was dealing with that, but mentioned it in passing to a buddy who already got her Final Select letter and OCS date. She told me that her OCS date was printed on her Final Select letter, and her processor was able to look that information up and give it to her while the letter was awaiting a sig. She also mentioned (less relevant), that she hasn't sworn in yet and they told her to do that about a month before she leaves for OCS.
The question: In my situation (letter routed for sig), can my processor go into the system and look up my OCS date? If not, what is the actual procedure that I am waiting on?
The reason I ask is not because I am an impatient jackass (although I am), it's mostly that knowing my OCS date would make some current decisions I'm making regarding living/working in the meantime much easier.
