Does/will the Marine SOC have its own air component specially designated just for special operations? Or are they just going to borrow from regulars and other special operations airwings like the 160th?

It was stated intially that MARSOC would be supported by their own air assets. However, we were told that they are able to request our sevices as well. That's usually in CONUS anyway. Overseas, we carry whoever wants a ride.

It does not have an air component. Elements of MARSOC will still deploy with MEUs, in which case they will use Marine assets, otherwise, USA/USAF will give them rides. Perhaps as MARSOC matures and Iraq stops sucking up assets, a dedicated air element will be created.

I thought it was interesting that when Marines from whatever MEU-SOC whas in the area at the time - that took the embassy in Liberia, that it was AF MH-60G's that gave them lift from the ship and NOT organic HMM. Strange to see Marines fast roping out of AF helos - when perfectly capable HMM birrds sat idle on the deck. What's up with that?
