Drug Boat Strike

Saw this on the news. Makes me wonder if this was a strike from the air or from a surface vessel?

Coulda been anything. I once watched an MQ-whatever shoot a hellfire into the engine block of an ISIS truck in a service shop in Mosul, from the CAS stack. I remember thinking, "huh, good choice, everything on my wings would have leveled the whole place". It is wild how precise and low collateral some more modern platforms can be these days. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a drone strike, but I haven't really studied the video very closely, before anyone tries to big league me here :)

Since it was a moving target, and not that big a boom, I’m going with APKWS.

Given the various assets that are down there right now, this makes the most sense. I am surprised how relatively unharmed the hull is, though.

ETA: If it is APK, I think that might be the first operational maritime strike with that weapon system unless the Marines have hit something elsewhere (which is entirely possible).

Maybe the VP guys torped them…now that would be interesting.

It wouldn't be able to hit that target.

I’m a long way off from a VP (or torpedo) expert, but I was kind of joking off the @sevenhelmet bubblehead quip. This does lead to a question (don’t answer if it is none of my business) can the P-8 utilize smaller weapons like the Hellfire?

I think I get the thinking behind the strike but the guys in the boats were almost always at the bottom of the org chart and usually provide much more valuable info when captured/arrested.

You think they’re more afraid of the US judicial system than retaliation by the cartels against them and their families?

Yup! They are so far down the food chain they likely don't care about them much, and it isn't like most of them are some sort of monolithic organization either. In reality plenty of them squeal on the next guy up the food chain when faced with substantial US federal prison time.
