I was just wondering what air frames have a greater chance of being west coast, yuma etc, as opposed to east coast. Just curious.

Anyone can correct me if I am wrong. F/A-18 A and C units could be Miramar, Yuma, Beaufort, Cherry Point, or Japan (I think there is 1 squadron). EA-6's are only Cherry Point. F/A-18D's are Beaufort and Miramar. Helo's are east and west coast. Someone else would have to comment on the other aircraft. They all deploy often enough though.

Japan is the F/A-18C (VMFA-212). Yuma has the AV-8s and F-5s (the latter mount is reserve only). The Osprey is MCAS New River, NC. I know the west coast C-130s are at Miramar.

Hornets - Beaufort, Miramar, Japan + (Atlanta, DFW, Florida, DC - reserves)
Harriers - Cherry Point, Yuma
Prowlers - Cherry Point

Occasionally when they attach to a CVW I think they can move with the rest of the wing to places like Lemoore or Oceana, but I'm not 100%.

What are you doing, Firebert? Helos and C-130's don't even rate an honorable mention?

C-130's: Miramar and Cherry Point
Hueys: Pendleton and New River
Cobras: Pendleton and New River
46's: Pendleton, Miramar, New River
53E's: Miramar, New River
53D's: Hawaii

Or, you can look at it this way:

Hawaii: 53D's
Pendleton: Skids and 46's
Miramar: C-130's, 46's, 53E's, Hornets
Yuma: Harriers
Beaufort: Hornets
New River: Skids, 46's, 53E's
Cherry Point: C-130's, Harriers, Prowlers

That list doesn't include SAR or station birds (C-12's, C-35's, and such)

haha...awesome

I can only speak on that which I'm familiar....that, and everyone else only mentioned jets, so I stuck with the trend. So ya, it was basically failure to understand the whole question :)

What about the Super Hornets? I know the Marines are finally getting some. I thought it was something like Cherry Point or somewhere else on the east coast.

No we aren't
Currently there are no plans for the Corps to acquire Supers. Seeing as the Navy is still standing up Super squadrons, IF we get them, it will be a long time coming.

I remember when Gen Hagee took over, he said the Super Bug will still a no-go for the Corps. I'm pretty sure that's still the case.

It would be nice if the Corps had that bug though.

Let me get this straight...you'd rather go to YUMA than the East Coast?

I don't know. I have only been to the east coast for OCS, and Kentucky for Tank School. It's not that I don't like it, I would just rather be closer to the west since that is where I am from. At the same time, I am not opposed to anything and may love it. Just curious really. I heard that when you get to flight school you find out that duty station has as much to do with selecting an air frame as what you want to fly does.

Besides its alot further to come to Idaho to go Elk hunting if I am in Cherry Point than if I am in Pendelton, and I heard Arizona has some big elk too.

Who knows, maybe I'll just fly my harrier to elk camp. :D

f-5 in yuma

The F-5'S in Yuma are not reserve they are senior Marines that act as the bad guys for training including WTI.
