East Coast

If you were to request an east coast duty station after the RAG, would you be more likely to end up at Cherry Point or Lejeune? Does this depend on the aircraft you choose?

You select your aircraft, go to the RAG, and you get your coast assignment when you graduate the RAG. They do help you out with coast choice, if it meets the requirements/needs of the USMC/USN, and you graduate high enough to have a choice.

Unless things have changed recently, you get your coast at the same time you get your aircraft......when you wing. That was a Marine only thing when I went through.

Don't go East Coast. Trust me. You'll thank me later.

Your dad must take "Embracing the SUCK" to a whole new level if he retired there.

Eh.. he thought that it would be a good place to raise kids. I guess from a parent's standpoint it was. To be honest, I kinda miss it. I suppose it grew on me the same way that hostages get Stockholm syndrome, or whatever it's called. It's not a bad little town, just not a real happenin place. Unless you get excited about furniture stores and fast food restaurants.. :(

Lousy furniture stores you mean.

When I redesignated, my monitor offered me my choice of duty stations, because we knew some of the same people in the AMO field (the company grade DASC monitor oversees all aviation ground MOS's, and is always an AMO). My (at the time) fiancee said she wanted me to try for East coast orders, so it would be easier for her to fly back home to PR. So now, when she bitches about Havenot, etc. I generally try to sneak the fact that it's her fault in there. She only gets mad because she knows it's true.

Ha, yeah. But I'd have to have even more of my frontal lobe removed if I went to my sister squadron on the left coast. I'm up for something other than an operational tour when my time on station is done, and I'm already torn between looking for a sweet deal and applying for the Uber-Sweet Deal. Besides, I'm already a Captain, and my controlling opportunities will drastically plummet after this float. Instead, I'd be the toolbag who calls the TACC on your ass when you ignore the controllers working for me. Not that I'd even consider such a thing...

Edit: All kidding aside, I'd love to roll out to the West coast. I 'grew up' there as a young LCpl/Cpl, and I really have missed it. Applying for/Accepting the Uber-Sweet option would effectively keep me away from there for at least 5-6 years, but who knows.
