(June 8, 2011) Aviation Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Dwayne Williams secures a C-2A Greyhound assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 20 to the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) shuttle as part of the first launch of a C-2A Greyhound at Naval Air Engineering Station, Lakehurst, N.J. The Greyhound was launched 18 times over a wide range of aircraft weights June 8 and 9 as part of ongoing aircraft compatibility testing. EMALS is a complete launch system designed for the Ford-class aircraft carriers and will replace the steam catapult system, which has been in use for more than 50 years. Cmdr. Raymond Bieze, from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23 at Naval Air Engineering Station, Lakehurst, N.J., for the first successful launch of a T-45C Goshawk.
