Embassy Protection / Officer Recruitment Goals

Hey guys,
I've got two completely different questions today:

1. Which Marine MOS is involved with Embassy Protection? I would guess the MPs, but when I looked at the MOS manual, nothing was ever mentioned about Embassy Protection.

2. I heard a lot in the news the first half of this year (less so in the last month or two) about the problems the Marine Corps was having recruiting. I'm assuming the problem was mainly on the Enlisted Side, but I was wondering how the Officer Corps is fairing? Is there a website that I check to see Recruiting goals, and success? The reason I asked, is that I know the Marine Corps needs people, but I'm just wondering how bad they need officers. Also, which MOS's seem to be the most popular, and the most over-filled?

Thanks,
mrh

Marine Security Guard (MSG, aka "Embassy Protection") is a B-Billet.

The MOS # is 8151 if you want to look it up.

If you have any questions, send em downrange, I just got back from MSG mid-May.

What exactly are B-billets, and what other Jobs/MOS's are considered B-billets? Also, is embassy protection considered a highly sought after B-billet?

Thanks,
Matt

B-Billets are just secondary jobs within the Marine Corps.

I only know of 4 actual "Special Duties." Drill Instructor, Recruiter, Marine Security Guard, and SOI Instructor.

MSG is a pretty good one, you go live in a country for a year or so at a time (right now they are doing 3 12-month rotations). Sometimes it is nice, sometimes you are in a ****hole - but even the ****holes are a good time.

The school has a pretty high attrition rate, and it is definitely not fun. The duty itself isn't too bad.

I worked every day for the last 3 months I was there, so it isn't all roses, but it is awesome being able to live indigenously in a country and learn all it's ins and outs.
